Everyone read it, everyone hated it

I posted something a few years back, I was probably drunk and stupid when I blogged this (I don't even remember what was I doing researching matrimonial sites, don't I have better things to do in college, like wasting time ;-)). I don't remember the post content but, I do remember posting a case study on matrimonial sites. Just a few days back, there was a Facebook update and it just stuck me that I can share my blog post with that update, it wasn't forced advertising, I was not trying to prove anything with my update...it was just a Facebook Share for god's sake.  I got a really really bad comment (which I must say, was very correct to their part, actually, I shouldn't have posted this link in that thread), and supposedly, their comment would have been worse if I were not friends with the guy who started the thread. That comment forced me to read my post once again, I dint know I can provoke people to such an extent, so, I went and read the pos...

You learn from mistakes, not from blunders

So, if you have done a blunder, be bold and face the consequences…Yes! That’s exactly what you should do, and unfortunately, that's the only thing you can do. There is no harm in making blunders, but the thing which sucks about blunders is the fact that you did all the wrong things knowingly and you realized it when it was too late. No issues, some blunders like losing money, leaving someone somewhere, forgetting someone’s birthday, screwing up the interview you had been desperately waiting for, breaking up with someone just because you had a bad day, and missing an exam because you started late ;-)...have all become really really common these days. I suggest you to do one thing before you face the shitty consequences – take a coffee break and laugh at yourself for screwing it up ;-). It feels great ;-D. Guys who screw up a lot are not at all afraid of blunders, it becomes their way of life . But, those who screw up once in a while get shit scared and fear the conseque...

Solve question papers before exams

Work is not something you go to, it is something you do. No...it's not a smart-ass line, it is for real. You make sense only when you get something done. I feel that we stress a lot on going-to-work, instead of stressing on doing-actual-work. I have fairly worked in different work environments, the rookie in me used to think, why is everyone talking about results all the time, what matters is the effort and work that goes into a process, right!...absolutely not , what ultimately matters is results, a result oriented work environment ensures clear progress. Not just the end results, even the intermediary results matters a lot. Now I know, why everyone told me to solve question papers before exams, instead of just reading through the chapters and answering chapter-wise questions. It's because solving question papers is very result oriented a.k.a doing-actual-work , whereas, reading chapters is merely like going-to-work . Unfortunately, I just kept reading chapters till the end a...

Threatened by a younger counterpart

It's perfectly normal to be taken aback when a younger counterpart takes the cake which was meant for you, there is no way you are gonna get all that you want that easily. In a way, over the years, even you have done the same thing to your seniors i.e. took their piece of cake (for a reason or just by plain luck). So, be a sport and don't have any hard feelings when a younger counterpart takes the opportunity meant for you, just apply a little logic , it might be because there is something far better inline for you, or may be because he was the obvious choice, not you. I have seen this happen but, I have never experienced it, probably because I belong to the youngest of the working class . But, I have been in schools and colleges, I got threatened by a junior a lot of times and there was too much bad blood between us for months together. The point to be noted is that I never felt bad when I took on some seniors and scored better than him.  You see why? it is because w...

TATA NANO - no really, tata bye bye

Image
Before you say anything, I am proud owner of TATA NANO , I recommend it to every other guy for the kind of space it has, and of course its superb mileage. It has lived up to its hype, unlike other products which disappoint all its customers after too much promotion. More the hype, more the expectations, and ya, more disappointments. But the car din't do that well, I think this is why: Its termed as a cheap car - even poor people can buy it, actually, anybody can buy it..REALLY!... I'd say go to a TATA showroom and check its ON ROAD price , it beats a few low priced car and almost reaches the price of SUZUKI ALTO. Oh k that explains why people stare at the car when I halt in traffic. Tall people wont fit - you are so wrong about that, I am 6'.2" (no kidding), and it's so damn comfortable that I prefer this car over a lot of other cars. My colleagues and friends can give the same testimony about his car, they too love it. It's not safe - In a way, y...

I dint mean it

Disclaimer :You wont understand anything if you don't know how it feels like to be insane for a while. Somethings are just point blank, some of the other things don't even mean anything. There is meaning to it, you just have to read between the lines. I don't care if I have a heart-attack or someone else gets it because of me, coz I don't fear, I  know that we are all gonna die someday.  Don't paint the wall with your 5th standard lemon and spoon competition gold medal brag, show me what u've got now. What kind of a person are you, are you the one who comes in the newspaper articles that talk about how you believe in karma and how meditation is good for health, if that's true, great job, but did you really use the product you endorsed in that article, either ways, I don't care how you make money as long as you are not stealing my job.  I just don't mind whatever happens around me, coz (almost) everyone seems to be doing a commercial here, I a...

I read, so I wrote

Image
What I write is a reflection of all that I read. All smart guys read (I hope you got the drift ;-P) , all leaders are readers, the more you read, the more insights you have. If some guy in the office is always silent, either he is a psycho or he doesn't read anything. What you write, what you read, and what you talk about is directly proportional to what you like. You don't have to carve a niche or think before starting a blog, instead you just have to start a blog and start writing all that you feel like writing, slowly you will find out about what you REALLY like. Every blogger who blogs regularly, blogs only about one thing and that is what defines his blog. That said, if you really like a blogger, mail the blogger asking him what he reads, coz you might want to follow what he follows. PS: I think I crap write about YOU , life , improvements and business . That's pretty much what I like to read. PS: One more thing, you have got to read this ebook (go download...

On idea recognition

Image
My idea got recognized because the evaluator knew what my idea can possibly do. My idea didn't get recognized because the evaluator didn't know what I was talking about. My idea didn't get recognized because I was not able to express it in words/presentation. My idea got recognized because the evaluator's work was directly impacted by my idea. I don't think anywhere we talk about how good or bad the idea was. It is quiet evident that every (may be, most of them) idea is worth a try, the ideas which get recognized are the once which the evaluators like. Thumb rule, your idea is always worth it. An idea gets a true evaluation when the evaluators are customers or a varied audience. Why should a writer be evaluated by some writer's guild, why should technologists decide which technology should be mainstream. It should be the users who get to decided what's hot and what's not . A wonderful example of a truly evaluated idea, facebook.com.

Criticism is not an issue

Image
but your defense mechanism in return to that criticism is. I am sure this has happened to you before, you tried to give someone a genuine feedback to address one of the not so cool things in their personality or work, instead of just listening to you and trying to figure out how to work towards making it better, the other guy bounces back saying something stupid which demeans your comments and makes you feel like you are preaching.  You know if the critique is genuine the minute you get a feedback. In anyways, just take the freaking feedback, remember that you were worth being noticed and criticized  (what an honor ;-P). If the critique just wants to ridicule you, people around you would surely notice that, likewise, when the critique gives a genuine feedback and you try to demean his comments, people around you notice that too. PS : But...a really big but ;-), If you get criticized for what is your way of life, you can just take the fee...

Good till it lasts

Image
I know it's not gonna be a part of me in a few weeks, I need to make sure that I keep it as good as I can, so that, when it's no-more, I don't miss/feel bad. I must say that I enjoyed each and every moment till it lasted (not every moment, but ya, almost). I knew it had to leave me some day, and I am happy that I get to decided about its departure. A few more days to go... It's gonna be legendary. - Barney PS: Sounds like a movie teaser. Yes it is!

"To-Not to do" list

Image
The need of the hour is not trying to keep track of what I need to do, instead, try to keep track of things I shouldn't do; reality check: there is plenty of time to do all that is required to be done. I wasn't born busy, I got myself to it . Start a to-not to do list, it is far better than having a to-do list because you know it, I don't have to say why . Just like there is net-neutrality to govern this monstrous Internet, we should have social-police to stop us addicts from doing all that we do over and over.

Don't add value to my idea

Image
NOTE: It's about stealing ideas by trying to add more value to it...Nope, I am not discussing the movie INCEPTION . Teachers prefer students who ask too many silly questions  over know-it-alls who question the correctness of their teacher's knowledge. A so called know-it-all needs home schooling coz teachers get fed up with guys who just wouldn't let go of the fact that they know everything (really! everything!). I still remember, when I was getting trained at Wipro , my tutor did a survey to find out who all were familiar with the subject/course, after the survey she said " All those who don't know C/C++ have an advantage over those who know, coz it's easy to teach guys who are new to the subject than those who come with a so called computer science background ". Disadvantage of being a know-it-all, everything seems like revision and there is nothing new to learn (FYI that's a myth). When people ...

It's ok to take care of yourself

Image
I just find it difficult to think about taking care of myself. A lot of things like responsibilities, honor, respect, a need to impress, a need to pretend , a need to play safe and a lot of such stupid things in other people's way of life make my day really stressful, and I find no time to take care of myself. I just don't mind losing the most precious thing (though it will hurt like hell), I am not scared if you felt bad or if you think that I was being selfish or self-obsessed (: (), but, no matter what, I will not trade anything in this world for happiness, convenience and my way of life . Its all for a reason and I don't see anything wrong as long as I quietly do what I wanna do without hurting/bothering anyone else. I feel terrible coz today I found myself being defensive for no reason and still, I was really not able to do anything more to prove my point , and finally, I said to myself forget it and lets just be hurt for a while instead of...

Personal Talks - Energy Stealers

Of course, its personal and you like doing personal stuff ; But, I've noticed that most of our personal talks are repetitive. Just for the sake of applying Pareto's principle, I came up with " 80% of our personal talks have only 20% fresh context ". I tend to talk more on topics which I've already talked about , that's like revision and you see, the second time I recite, I do it better than the first time. These repetitive talks are big time energy stealers, they suck the time and energy out of you, and you don't have any idea about how much energy you lose in these repetitive talks . We cracked that joke, we cracked it again. AFAIK, it was just as funny as it was before. check We discussed office , we discussed it again . AFAIK, it got a little more boring than it was before. uncheck We planned ahead, we kept planning till our plan was successful/unsuccessful. AFAIK, planning is a freaking hectic job coz we did it everyday. uncheck We discussed...

Being Correct is Oddly unsettling

I said something in the meeting and it was correct. Yes! I was not only correct, but, I was the only guy who was correct. After the meeting, I told them again, to make sure that they know why I was correct and what made me say such a correct statement. Then, I pinged my co-worker who (before the meeting) was haggling with me on my correct statement, I had to tell her " I told you, I was correct " (Thou shalt embarrass her! ;-D). & finally, I blog about why I was correct and what it feels like. The feeling of being correct is very oddly unsettling. You know you were correct and you just cant stop talking about it. Most of us do it but we never realize that its time we should just let go ;-), "I" in the above situation was someone else not me. I used "I", because it gives a better explanation for why being correct is so oddly unsettling .

Hollow Within

Brain : Full of good ideas, seeking solutions all the time and ready for trouble. Heart : Something bothering, something not correct or something majorly wrong. Problem : The main problem is that I cant figure out the problem, but I know for sure that there is a mind-body-soul imbalance (that's one new term I learned today ) coz I seem to have lost all my enthu. Now, that's exactly what people call " Hollow from within " (or may be, its just me :-)). You cant help me, I cant help myself, I cant ask for help coz I don't know what's wrong. The only thing which a person can do in these times is LIVE IT. I don't know what I am chasing but its a good read on Mind-body-soul PS: I love my blog, nobody likes to listen to philosophy but my blog has to ;-)

THE song

We heard it once, played it the second time, changed the player mode to  repeat and then, we just kept listening as it was going great with whatever is that we were doing. A really really really really special song. What (else) makes it special : It goes right inside you, touches your soul and comes out (the line I last used for Iron Maiden- Dance of death and M.S.Subhalakshmi- Bhaja govindam ;-)). For all the unobvious reasons, I can never forget this song ;-P. PS: I thought of embedding the audio but the video is perfect and easily found on YouTube ;-), enjoy.

10 months in 5 minutes

It's a blast from the recent past, Chennai memories 2009-2010 . I really feel good coz now that I look at my albums, I know for sure that all the photos have me smiling and not simply posing. Happy people, happy faces. It took me quiet a lot of time to shortlist photos for this video coz I wanted every other photo in my album to be included, really fulfilling times ;-)

Some snacks

Image
Mixture is on the menu. Little bit of anything & everything is what you get when you order some snacks a.k.a mixture. Some snaky facts; It's all from within ( Note: if the points below come in any book or any type of media, the author is lying about it coming from within ;-P):  You are not defeated unless you accept your defeat . If your the next guy going to "The Moment of Truth", make sure you believe in whatever you say, it's not a lie unless you think it is. It's true that a brain mapping tool will not be able to detect a small boy lying about ghosts & superman being real.  Snap Judgment - the second you see any person or any book, you know that very second about what the other thing holds for you (she likes you or that's a good book etc).  Don't confuse good English with good marketing, some people with great English, suck at selling themselves in a group discussion or interview . When it comes to sales & marketing (S & ...

Negotiating career needs

It was never like " I am new to the corporate " and Now with a blink of an eye, it’s almost 20 months to the different places I've worked a.k.a spent time. I remember back in college , I was up and ready to do any garbage work as long as the company is willing to load my pockets, now times have changed and there are a few more things to weigh before I can take the plunge, for instance: bonuses, profile, scope of work, authority, location & of course compensation matters a lot .   Sticking at one place/office is really essential, I know it!! I've had to leave a profile which I'd been waiting for around 6-7 months, not that I sacrificed anything but the decision was a tough one. BTW I have no regrets right now, may be later ;-)...way to go!   Still there is room for change and I am always on a look out. I attend interviews like its some weekend getaway. It’s pretty insensible for a person to keep looking out but not take up the opportuniti...
