When people tell you "don't take it personally"
I see a lot of articles/videos that talk about "why not to take things personally and not get hurt in the future", "why should one not give a damn about failure and have the heart to move on as quickly as possible", and "no-strings attached theory to life"; and I think to myself, why is "getting personal" sidelined and treated as the culprit.
Some (wise) people think that we should not take certain things personally because if we do and if whatever-we-took-personally did not work the way we thought it would, then we will be depressed, which is clearly not a good thing. But if you look from another angle (that is, my angle), everything we do should be taken personally (especially, our work). I know that the chances of getting hurt is really high, but the point is, things and situations are best enjoyed if they are taken personally. Not just that, even people are best enjoyed if you get personal with them and if they too get personal with you.
So, if you did not win the game (that you thought you would after all the hard-work), it makes sense to get depressed. If you lost your job that you loved (a.k.a gave everything to), it makes sense to get depressed. If you loved a women with all your heart, and she left you for some stupid reason, it really really makes sense to get depressed.
Just try doing this: when people tell you "don't take it personally", ask them "why exactly?"...and if you get an answer that goes like "you'll get hurt later on...", then you know that people are discouraging you from one of the best experiences (of getting personal) only because you might get depressed later on.
I (personally :)) think that it's better to get depressed later on (if at all) than to not get personal with something/someone early on.
