Guys in senior positions get bad mouthed for all wrong reasons
Experience will definitely teach you what doesn't work even if it doesn't teach you what works. Knowing what works might come as a consolation prize. So, with lots of experience, you might still suck at work. And it's important to know that experience doesn't necessarily brand you as the person who knows best.
But you know what, simply knowing what doesn't work makes you one of the best fit for an advisory/leadership role. Advising people isn't always about giving directives, it's also about knowing beforehand about the directives that simply might not work.
Most of the inexperienced people bad mouth their leaders and their leader's competence. Some of them may be correct at what they say, but, they can give a benefit of doubt to some of their leaders/advisors, if they feel that their leaders know a lot about things that don't work even if they don't know much of what works.
Failed startup entrepreneurs. Senior managers from dying companies. Actually, senior guys from Lehman brothers are great advisors/leaders for all of us. :)
