Team outing - minority wins popularity

I was on a one-day product team outing. I knew just around 10 guys out of the 50 guys who came for this outing, statistics says - bigger the known group better the outing (damn it! statistics ain't helping). My friend and I were sort of a minority in the group, by that I mean, the least number of attendees from a team compared to the three other teams in that product.

But, when it came to partying, swimming, talking, joking, eating, playing, drinking and all that...The two of us were all over the place with a group of other like-minded people who were always up for some more enjoyment. Guess what! I think after yesterday, the two of us have become a little more popular or know in our office. The least I can say is that even if people forget our names, they know our roles ;-). This outing was a good opportunity for a lot of employee-employee interaction and just because we were the minority, we surely are the easiest to remember ;-). Reminds me of the situation when, a student remembers a teacher but a teacher forgets all his students, and a manager forgets her reports but all the reports remember their manager.

Minority wins popularity! If you are the only one of your kind in a big group, then the fact that everyone knows everyone-else except you works your way ;-)

PS: Staying away from the other teams leaves us no other way but these once-in-a-while meetings/outings to catch up and connect. I had super fun in this outing, nice get-away form the city life.
