SWIN IN THE POOL, OCEAN AINT FUN
Don’t you worry; I ain’t an ocean frenzy guy. The pool & ocean is what I use to describe the two different corporate worlds. I am not speaking for the experienced lot; it’s exclusively for the fresh entrants who are stepping in a not so transparent corporate world. I believe it’s not always the same for two different people but I am sure that most of us have been/will be in this position in our careers.
Ocean is for sharks & whales, it is not a habitat for the small fishes (whattt??). Again, a pool is exclusively for small fishes as there is no scope for the biggies to enter & even if they are present, they are in small numbers.
I see the above as a corporate phenomenon!! Do not turn you back on a relatively small office just because some other big shot office is welcoming you. Now it being a recession time, lots of us are afraid of the current job & are always in a lookout for something better. Not that I differ, I am exactly the same as everyone else but now that I have already had a jump from the small pool to the big ocean, I feel so sick & I am utterly pissed with that decision of mine.I don’t want you to do the same mistake. The charm of the small offices takes the cake
1. You get to showcase your talent (all that you have) in these places, not for the accolades or the office but for you to get to know what your worth. Trust me, that in itself is a personal legend.
2. You need not be in the right job to know what you want to do. Any job with a constructive P2P competition will give you a quality experience to grow better.
3. Expectations & competition being minimal between the co-workers, you get the feeling that the office cannot run without you (the key player).
4. There are a lot of us who are devoid of employment, if you come in our fraternity then I’m sure you have better grooming in a small office.
5. You are your personality; you are the only cause for your standings in the office. It is relatively easy to get noticed for all that you do, be it professionally or personally with your office colleagues.
Nevertheless, I am not against the big boys i.e. the already established corporate brand. I might be very amateurish in supporting the small offices over the most sought after offices, but just to give you a reality check; why don’t you interact with your friends & family about their office/corporate life?? Most of the complaints you will get would be inclined towards JOB SATISFACTION, some might be earning more than the others but at the end of day a frustrated head is of no good.
PS: The grass is always greener on the other side, no pun intended. Stick to what you do best & try getting rid of what seems like a passerby. Doing things without interest will eventually drag you out of the race, so let us get to our track & race with interest...good luck, cheers.
