Hospitals have to start treating patients as customers/clients
It is a good exercise for kids and adults-behaving-like-kids to go along with a patient to a hospital. The place makes you serious and helps you understand that patients in the hospital (some with really serious illness) are just like you in terms of their lifestyle & appearance; and that, we too can unknowing be having all that they have. This is the scary part of going to a hospital, but then if shit has to happen, it will! So Chill! Anyway!
I did not go there for any serious illness or anything. A family member had to do some tests and we were there to see the diagnostician.
What I felt is screwed up about the hospital? I did not feel welcome, I felt that I have got to fight my way to the doctor, and that I am responsible for ensuring that I am doing the right things at the hospital. Now, this got me to think about what is the futuristic hospital going to be like? It will be a place where patients are truly treated as customers/clients.
Clearly, the patients are made to feel like they are not really welcome and that the hospital is doing a favor by helping them (the patients). Favor my ass! We are paying a bomb to get ourselves fixed. :) As a consumer/customer we are used to getting a decent service from whoever we pay because the businesses know that if they don't treat us (customers) well, there will be another business that will.
So yeah! You hospital businesses! Do me a favor, please don't treat me like you are doing me a favor.
PS: I see a lot of opportunities from the administration and the customer-service standpoint. Hospitals have a huge scope for improvement. Cheers!
