Marry a developed country to an underdeveloped/developing country
If a girlfriend and a boyfriend can't stay with each other in a relationship, they break up.
If a married couple can't stay with each other in a relationship, they still stay together in the name of the kid, house, or something else (sorry to digress but just a thought, if you don't love that someone, it makes sense to divorce that someone, and for god's sake, don't your the "for-our-kid" card for not breaking up).
Coming back to our point. You see, married people don't break up till the shit hits the fan. Most probably because they have lots of paperwork to deal with and that they get so adjusted to each other that it's better to stay together than start over again with someone else.
Bing! Why don't we marry a developed country to a (few) developing/underdeveloped country? In this case, polygamy makes sense. The countries involved should be in love, in that, they should fulfill each other's requirements and should support ONLY one another, after all, all the countries involved in the marriage will be special to one another. Making use of other countries should be made very costly.
I am not looking to bring equality in this world (because I don't believe in equality, the universe isn't fair). I am just looking to use the power of relationships to make things really matter. By the way, if this isn't something that works for two country, how about we marry two states of the same country and expect them to take care of one another completely. The point with marriage is that you are tied to the state and you must progress together.
It's a leadership thing: you tie a manager to her subordinates, so, her progress depends on the progress of her subordinates. If her subordinates bomb at work, she bombs.
PS: Forget about the details. That can be carved (if at all). This is a thought experiment. Just think about it.
