The government's decision isn't really the solution, you know it!
Rage against the government. Classic!
It's good to see that each one of us is really really sad and angry about the gang rape incident, and that we feel that these rapists be severely (actually, very very severely and publicly) punished. We want severe punishment not just to hurt those rapists, but we want this punishment to be a message to the whole country that rape is a really fucked-up thing to do and that the consequences of raping someone is so bad that one should not just be morally-obliged but terrified of doing such an act.
Great! Extreme measures are really called for. We all want a message to be sent to those who dare think about raping someone.
But, what's mind boggling is that some of us are talking about why isn't the government doing something quickly. Some people demand that they be hanged or killed right away. Well! I just want to tell these people that the government is not playing some video-game! Be real, don't let your anger take over your mental faculties...I seriously think that these people are being stupid and out of their minds to even think that anything will happen quickly. Wait! Don't you start cursing me, I am as angry and pissed as you are. Before you say anything, think about this:
- We caught Ajmal Kasab red-handed spraying bullets at civilians and it took us 4 years to sentence him (hang him, that is).
- We caught a lot of pimps and human-traffickers who used to sell women and children, yes! They used them (especially, women) as a commodity for years (maybe, decades) and many unfortunate people died for no reason. These pimps are on bail or in jail for doing such a heinous crime. They are not given a death sentence.
- We caught this crazy guy who kidnapped and murdered several children and young girls. And, not to forget, he actually enjoyed doing it. He is not given a death sentence.
There are plenty of other cases like this, you know about it! I don't have to point them out to you. These cases may be different from the gang rape case in 5 million ways, but the point is, these acts were as cruel and as inhuman. And for some shitty reasons, solving these cases took a lot of time. Nobody wants to wait, but it looks like every time in the past, we had to wait for the justice to be served.
Now, the girl died today and we are ultra-pissed that we have the rapist in our custody (breathing and eating their meals). We don't want these rapists to be alive for what they have done, but the government cannot execute them in a blink of an eye. No doubt! The government should try to do something about it as quickly as possible. But again, be realistic and try to understand that actions and decisions take a lot of time in our country and yes! What's obvious to us, isn't obvious to everyone.
Finally, if you want to do something quickly, look within (it sounds cliche, right?)...Fuck it! I am not trying to motivate you or act like a saint here. All I am saying is that one of the biggest problems is that there is this terror within us and at times we are unable to control it. Most of us do things that are unjust (sometimes, the unjust things even hurt others). We don't commit crimes, but committing a crime is just around the corner from where we are. These criminals were just one of us before they became demons. Most of us (especially, Men) need to learn to subside our demons and put our rage to control. Lets keep fighting for justice but for god's sake don't lie to yourself by saying that the only solution to this rape incident is for the government to act quickly (that's just a part of the solution).
May she rest in peace and I hope that the criminals get a really really severe punishment by the court of law as soon as possible. God bless! Sad sad day.
